Althouse Makes Me Dizzy! Sometimes.

Ok.  She's on the right side of a race issue.

Finally.

Here.

"Decent people whose rational minds would reject explicit racial material can be emotionally manipulated. They get their fears stirred up. If this is what Romney supporters think they need to do to get their man elected, I hope they fail. And, frankly, I think they will fail. If people in the middle — like me — get the impression that fear of black people is supposed to be the reason to vote for Romney, we're going to vote for Obama. That's the America I believe in. I think I'm right about that."

Bravo.  Well said.

Romney and people like him are just plain despicable.

Remember this guy? The last big plan he had was a march for Poor People. They shot and killed him before he could.

Know about that other guy named Romney? No I am not going to say he wants to shoot poor people. But he ain't gonna march for you, care for you, treat you with the kind of respect a POTUS should. He says . ."That's Not His Job."

Now I am definitely NOT NOT trying to change any one's plan here, to vote for the guy who doesn't have any empathy for the poor. If that is who you are, that is who you are. But know this. You can't be both a supporter of MLK and Romney. Make your choice people, and stick with it.

MLK

Romney and people like him are just plain despicable.  Some wing nut is likely to see this.  And just not get it.  And that is why people like that need to at least shut the fuck up and not vote anymore, or leave the country.  Fucking sickening.

Jon Stewart, on Clint's Convention Mental Break.

Not an exact quote, but he cracked a joke about how where they shoot "The Daily Show," in the part of NYC called Hell's Kitchen, you don't have to go far to see an old man shouting at inanimate objects.

I stopped watching the routine, just to post that joke, as a sorta almost New Yorker  (I live in the Greater NYC area) I so relate.  And people have been on the one hand, going mental themselves trying to defend this embarrassing act.  And on the other end of the scale  I have seen at least one article slamming Team Romney for throwing the old man under the bus.

Not an original thought, but I am among the many who quickly got to thinking . . .

if Willard can't manage his own convention, how the fuck is he going to be able to manage the affairs of the Nation?

I mean really,  people.

Jon Stewart Loved Clint's Bit.

Althouse Had to Go and Say Something That Ignorant!

And I was doing such a good job of not using the ordinary crap she posts  as a launching point for my posts.  But she said the following  regarding Willard's  Birther Joke:

"Anyway, it's obviously not racist. In fact, it's more racist to call it racist. To see it as racist, you have to have a background belief that to think of someone as a natural-born citizen is to think of him as white. Who thinks that?! "
Go here for that ignorant shit.

To answer her question, where have you been for the past four years?  Birthers think that!

And in calling out the racist birthers  for being that racist, one is not the racist.  One is the truth teller.  And to call out Willard for playing that sick little racist game is not itself racist either, but again, its just telling the truth.   Ever heard of Occam's Razor?  How about  the old line, looks like a duck, quacks like a duck?

We are not talking about a rational group of people, coldly examining the constitutional requirement of citizenship.  We are talking about what has to be the biggest example of sore-loseness in American Politics, that followed a campaign of intense racist vitriol, from the side that lost the election.  Before they lost!  Did I say sore loser?  Did I say racist?  Now back in the 2008 race, McCain might have avoided crossing over to the dark side  (pun intended.)  His running mate did not have to cross. She was there already.  And millions of the GOP  base, seemingly, were very comfortable with the racist shit. Remember all that?

I don't want to make this about her though.  Because, as ever, well usually, she's the symptom of a social disease that has infected America.  No I am still not going to call her racist.   That is the worse disease.  But she is representative of the social disease that for here and now I will call Bullshit Tolerant.  That means  she, as well as many other Americans, seems to have some cognitive blind spot, particularly where Occam's Razor should kick in.  And that results in taking as valid, if not true, a argument that merely qualifies as such, but is not a good one, and is clearly not the likely answer.

For example, as I saw the CBS interview where Willard attempted his lame defense,"It was just a joke."  No Willard.  It clearly was not JUST A JOKE.  It was you riffing off one of the most divisive and racist memes out there in the greater context of the Obama Presidency  --  namely  birtherism  and all the racist baggage that entails.  And specifically  it was in the context of the race between you and him for this coming election.  You being the white guy, who is running against the black guy, who has been hounded over this racist  birther shit for over four years.

Memo to both Althouse and Willard.  Context Matters!

Like I said,  the post really is not against Althouse. So much.  She is merely a symbol of the blight that actually is not only more prevalent with the wing nuts, but it is all to common for them and how the communicate with each other and to the rest of world.  You can call it  Bullshit Tolerant., or alternatively, Occam's Razor - Resistant.  Either way, its a kind of ignorance that some people are born to favor, if they are born actually deficient.  Other people, like lawyers and such?  Educated people have to work at it.  The same way a man who has deep insecurities about his masculinity, or a woman, her attractiveness, has to work on that shit, daily, if not hourly.

Oh.  And special message to Willard.  I have said this before, here.  I say it again:

"If someone is willing to risk being taken for a flat out racist by pandering to racist sentiments, I will oblige them accordingly."

Team Romney is now The Birther Team.

First things first. I am at the same time disheartend and pleased that Romney has gone birther, as that makes the charge of racist, just that much more obvious. But this is where we are. And the convention is yet to come. Anyway . . ...
. .

If the Fat Man is correct, the GOP will, by the end of this campaign, merit creation of a whole new deeper level of Hell just for them. Well them, fascists, and other sworn enemies of humanity. 20th Century had to have been a growth time for Hell. They can't take in millions more in a mere few decades, with out expanding. But the GOP alone is going to be adding millions to the ranks based on the election season alone. ( I really don't believe in Hell. This is an extended metaphor!)

But still. Team Romney is now The Birther Team. Thoroughly deststable.

Romney has gone birther and the shit for brains ranks will likely follow. I'm betting the pundits, pols and minions at Fox Not News are in. Or will be. Shortly. And I mean them who were not in to begin with.

Have You No Sense of Proportionality, Sir?

My re write of the "headline" for the Harry Reid vs Romney fight.

Shock.

Horror.

The Democratic Party Majority Leader did what millions of Americans do every day;  spread gossip.

Release the Kraken!

Go here for Romney's minion's worst ever quoting of the, "Have you no sense of decency," line.

Romney Come Out of the Closet

The racist closet.

Article at Pandagon

Evidence that Romney panders to the racist wing of the GOP. We can all write him off as a racist now, with out the slightest hesitation or tiniest bit of uncertainty. From my view, if you pander to racists, you earn that distinction. Under that rule many a momma tells her kids:

"You will be judged by the company you keep."

It's The End Of The World, And We Know It!

Ok.  That was for laughs.  On to more serious shit.  Romney admitted to sending goons to disrupt a speech by Team Obama poo bah  David Axelrod.  To re write the line from Belatrix LeStrange, He DOESN'T know how to play!

Speaking of goons, as I found out by rubbernecking Ann Althouse's house of racist mean crazies  (I mean her fan bois.)  Some fucktard acted like an asshole at some event for the Dem challenger in the WI  Governor  Recall fight.  Now the story's  all about HIMMMMMMM!  And the cops for arresting him.  Shit is fucked up and bullshit.

Speaking of such bullshit, bail has been revoked for Zimmerman, killer of Travon Martin.  No, it's not bullshit that his pass has been revoked. It is bullshit that he told the court that is cause for that.  He had more wing nut racist money in the pot from his web collection  site than reported.  And he has a 2nd passport he did not surrender.

Fuck him.  Well . . .  he's going to county, so that might happen.

Other than that.  What?  Ya.  Keeping in mind that after a certain point  (IIRC) I might have stopped talking about a certain shit-headed  shit who's allegedly a businessman who is also a reality TV  fixture  (I refuse to say star.)   I will try to at least keep from mentioning his name here.  But he represents  a troubling aspect to the Romney effort.  Granted, money had something to do with it.  But one of the main reasons  he's the presumptive GOP nominee, I believe, is that next to all them clowns, he looked good.  Being all stiff, and boring and  likely was prematurely  mature.

So I don't want any of the clowns near him from now till Election Day.  It's the Unattractive Friend  Theory  in play.  You know.  That's when the normal-ish but not really hot girl gets herself an unattractive friend, so when the show up anywhere, she's always  the better looking one?

Ya,  I can see Team Mittens  playing that shit.

Back to Politics. What This Election is About.

America the ignorant. Thanks in great part to a mostly worse than useless news media (and pundits.) The meme of the week is that the presidential election is about character. Not entirely false, but that misses the bigger picture.

This election (like many before it) is about philosophy of government and governance, and economic theory, and particularly where the two overlap.

Jumping to the chase here, I will say Old Joe Biden got it right when he brushed off (the disturbingly insane, baseless) arguments of Romney and company that his experience in Private Equity is a good qualification to make him POTUS. What did Joe say? That is no more a qualification than being a plumber.

I gotta add to what Joe said. I would say the master plumber/contractor might be more qualified, though. At least the master plumber/contractor runs an actual business that competes in the delivery of actual services to an actual market. The Private Equity people are engaging in a cynical form of capitalism (which is inherently cynical to start,) that often is more about manipulation of resources for short term ROI, rather than the ordinary delivery of goods and services to a market. And like that guy said in the suppressed TED speech. Hiring people (creating jobs) is the last thing those bastids want to do.

When Republicans Play Dumb, Expect Race to be on The Table.

When I first heard the mini controversy surrounding the Mitt Romney slogan,"Obama's Not Working,"  I came down on the side of those who were saying, of course there's some sort of racist pandering going on there.  I mean, firstly  we are talking about a candidate who's not even officially  the nominee yet, launching a full on assault on the incumbent.  This was not just some even planned jab for a talking point.  There's banners and a website.  This is the planned out first wave attack.  So it's hard to believe that no one saw the "joke" lazy black man, not too cleverly hidden there.

In a bizzare, but not entirely unexpected move, that piece of shit, Greg Gutfield accused Mediaite writer Tommy Christopher of being the racist, for pointing out the racism in the slogan/campaign.  Here.

Pardon me for repeating myself, as I do not recall how recently I have remarked that that is part of the way they play it.  Or as Bill Maher recently said it, denying racism is the new racism.  And Gutfield's on board with that shit!

Anyway, I should not be surprised that Professor Dickface, over at his blog, is on that bandwagon too.  And here is the truly bizzare part.  Professor Dickface actually quotes someone making the denial argument, and then turns around and says  it  (the slogan) isn't about Obama's color but . . .  wait for it . . .  his ego!

Yes.  That's the obvious answer!  If you are smoking Meth, I guess.

Anyway, it's one thing to just deny seeing it.  But it takes a great and colossal ass to dig down and find an hidden meaning that even the people who came up with the shit neither thought, nor communicated.

But I guess one's POV is likely to be more than a little warped, if one is already a right wing hack who is dedicated to tearing down P. Obama.

That's no excuse.  It is, however, a description.

And this time I will link it.  And before I let you go, it turns out I just took a little look at the comments.  Turns out the slogan is a plagarism.  It's a rewrite of Margaret Thatcher's "Labor Isn't Working."   So the real question is, was it put out there both knowingly race baiting and  knowingly stolen?  The way I posed the question show how I am leaning.  Not towards the either/or but to the all of the above, to start.

Monday Quickies. No Linkys.

Love that old quoted exchange between Newt and Bob Dole.

Newt:  "Why is everyone in such a rush to dislike me?"

Dole:  "Saves time."

The wheels are flying off the Newt bus, never mind the actual endorsement by Mack Daddy Cain, the rogue endorsement of Mr. Palin, and the almost sorta not actually but nearly so semi endorsement from Mrs. Palin.

News flash.  Mrs. Palin is still a rube.  And her stock at FNC is so low she's mainly doing the B list shows, over on Fox Business.  I wonder if Roger Ailes and the company got their money's worth out of her contract yet?  If so, take the Redneck Xena off the air.  Please?

I am tired of the "They are not racist, but . . ." arguments.  That is not a news flash.  But I want to see some strong voices with high media profiles  make the case that calling someone racist is not impolite, as long as their behavior warrants it.  We can never really know what is in some one's heart, even if they say,"This is in my heart."  Fuckers will lie.  Particularly if they are wing nut racists who tend to believe the line is always there where the next guy said something stupid.  It is never right there under their feet, when they say something stupid.

Anything else for now?  I saw some polling showing that a race between P. Obama and Romney is tighter than one between  P. Obama and Newt.  Newt gets creamed.  It's nice to know that only so many Americans  are freak flag flying, flaming idiots.

Ok.  I am done.  For now.

Krugman is Correct. But Too Narrow in Focus.

The Xmas truce is almost upon us.  I still have a little wrapping left to do but I am as ready for this damned thing as I likely ever will be, this year.  Anyway, I just read this oped from Krugman.  And as usual, his analysis is spot on.  However, he misses the forest for the trees, in a manner of speaking.

He aims his arrows at Mittens, for being a flat out liar.  That's true.  Mittens is a serial liar.  However. Um. Actually They All Lie Like Rugs.

There is this great line in the piece:

Over all, Mr. Obama’s positions on economic policy resemble those that moderate Republicans used to espouse. Yet Mr. Romney portrays the president as the second coming of Fidel Castro and seems confident that he will pay no price for making stuff up.

          Welcome to post-truth politics.

Or  as Steven Colbert would say, truthiness politics.  I'll get back to that, but when I read that, I thought, hmm.  The level of rhetoric Mittens is spewing is not really any different than that lying assed bullshit thrown about during the 2008 election.  Nothing new going on here, people.  In fact, I was put in mind of a conversation I had with an ex friend, who unsurprisingly (as should become clear in the next couple few sentences) turned out to be an evil liar.  This was before the 2008 election, and of course she's a delusional wing nut.  She said to me that Obama was a socialist, and she could prove it.  My reply to that was to ask her, if she thought I was a socialist.  She said no.  And then I told her, that Obama charts to the right of me on the political spectrum.  If I recall correctly, she never threw that insane, bat fucking delusional nonsense my way again.   However I am pretty sure that no matter the facts, she still believed, and likely still believes, on some fucked up level, that Obama is a socialist.

How does that work?  My guess, and I have said it time and again here, is that there is some weird way that wingnuts can suspend operation of cognitive dissonance.  A sane and healthy mind would have trouble maintaining the lie in their heads, that Obama is a socialist.  But for a wingnut, all that matters is the hate.  Doesn't matter what the definition of the word is.  It's an insult.  It's an accusation.  It's a vehicle for the delivery of some twisted, deep, dark animus that is primordial or some sort of sub sub level of lizard brain function.

Back to Mittens.  Mittens is just playing that game.  It doesn't matter that Obama and Mittens are in the same neighborhood, on the economic philosophy scale, relatively speaking.  Details don't really mean shit here.  What really matters for GOP politics is cultivate the hate.  Nurse the hate.  Exploit the hate.

And on that note, happy holidays.  Oh.  One further matter.  I said this over on my FB page a couple days ago.  Let me try to find it:

Wouldn't it be great if all the GOP Congress critters, and other right wing political hacks, and all the minions, for that matter, who who support them ALL got Scrooged this year?

And to be specific, not only Scrooged, but that the after effect sticks with them for life. Being filled with the spirit of generosity and good will towards others, helping the needy, and all that, but more importantly no longer believing it's ok to act like dicks.

I officially declare the Holiday Truce.  See ya later!

Friday Sorta Quickies. I am Not Really Up to Speed Yet.

But here goes!

I could go on about the continuing drama over at the Althouse blog.  But the actual details are rather tedious.  Instead I will talk about  meeeeeeee, and how it's all about meeeeee!  Not, it's not.  But I have the distinct feeling, or near about, like happened around the time Congress was voting to authorize the misadventure in Iraq.  I had sent my congress critter an email against such an insane and costly disaster.  And when he delivered his quite fine floor speech, I sorta resembled some of the words.  But let's be honest.  I was not, had not used some obscure words and odd phrasing that could be considered that original.

Likewise, I am just enjoying the fact that there has been a purge over there, following my taking  them to task for keeping racist and abusive and disgusting ugly shit from some of the minions there, up on the blog, way too long.  I already wrote how I was so amused that her husband, now co admin  of the blog, is utilizing my phrase, 'free speech ain't free'  (and thanks to among others, Stanley Fish for that idea.)  I will try to avoid using an insulting term here, but I will quote the husband, here, with what he posted here, on 4/20/11:

"Free speech is not an ideology or a gospel. It's a value."

I sorta wanna  congratulate him for growing the fuck up and realizing that Free Speech is not really a value, when the speech is so fucking annoying that one wants to bury it.  Or in his case, recently, delete, delete, delete.  So Mr. Meade.  Welcome to the He Man, We Stomp on Shitty Speech We Don't Like, Because We Can,  club.   Doesn't matter if one is stomping someone else's speech based on viewpoint, or so-called  "bad faith."  (This is the fucking Internet. Bad faith is the default.  Oh, but I remember the cowboy days of ten, more years ago.  Don't get me started.  The Net used to be a digital version of Deadwood!)  Please pardon my digression.  All you need do to qualify for membership in the club is wield dat dere delete button.  We won't hold you to task, too much, for vague posting policies  at your blog.  Like the pirates say in that Disney Franchise,"We be consider'n dem tabe merely guidelines, ya know."

Enough of that shit.  Even if I have been rubbernecking the toy-train wreck, there really is not much entertainment to be had, there.  But IIRC correctly  I did predict something scandalous happening to them.  But honestly  I mean more than a childish Internet spat turned into  digital toy-train wreck.

Moving on to another blogger.  The douchehnozzle I sometimes call  some wingnut professor?  Dood has a very fucked up habit, for a lawyer.  He expends a lot of energy on his blog defending (wingnuts) people for free.  What the fuck up with that?  It's been more entertaining than usual with the primary season, and it turning nasty.  Boy don't know how to sit back, kick his feet up, and enjoy the show, of the wannabes tearing into each other  (and the pundits doing their collateral attacks.)  So he has taken to attacking the wannabes for attacking each other (and the pundits for engaging in the sinister crime of actively being a pundit.)

Here's an example of that whiny, silly shit:  Whine!  Personally, I thought Mittens came across more "animated" than usual, and he did a journeyman's job of humanizing himself.  Even the note of discomfort in his posture  (I am going from memory of watching it as broadcast,) to my mind helped.  Helped so much that I don't really want to hear any more about his lack of authenticity from any the fuck one.  He's a stiff, starchy white guy.  Authentically so!  So get over it!

Back to the wingnut professor.  Granted, I don't bother to go to wingnut outposts on the net to argue with wingnut dick-noses anymore. But I do post my arguments  here.  And I repeat myself, in tone and message, if not exactly verbatim:

Don't you fucking know what the fuck this is?  It's a fucking primary, asshole.  That is what the wannabes  need to do.  Rip into each other, in order to win the titled of top fucking dog.  Then they are free to try to rip on the other party's top dog.  That, asshole,  is the fucking game!

So the fact that Mitten's took a (rather mild, actually) shot at Unka Newt while on Letterman is not cause for criticism.  It's cause for compliment.  Not only did he push back at an opponent, like people in a fucking primary are supposed to do, he did it as a laugh line, on a nationally broadcast highly rated TV show.  Fucking good for him!

Under the best of circumstances, here in America, even if you had a stellar field, it is still a contest between the wannabes, first.  That is the game.  Fuck that 11th commandment  stupid bullshit.  Oh.  And just to make a nice general slam against right wingers, that fucking 11th commandment bullshit about not speaking  ill of other GOPers?  Again, that is evidence that that party is fucking delusional.

Ok. Anything else to get into this morning?

Oh!  Ya!  The Glorious News!  Fucking Boehner and the Grinches in the House caved on the payroll tax. Now personally I don't give a shit about the issue.  Really.  Well specific to the tax cut, I am all  Meh about it.  But, and I confess to being a once and maybe future professional liberal political hack, I love the game play, and the tactical victory.  I doubt this is the indicator of things to come, but the GOP led Congress is at an all time low with approval ratings, and still the GOP leadership there is way the fuck too willing to vote against the will of the people.  I hope they continue to impose such self inflicted wounds on themselves.  Or call it Judo, where the fighter uses his opponent's energy against him?  Either way, if the Dems win, I am a happy camper.

Oh.  And if I don't get back here before  the 25th, merry  happy what the fuck ever you call it.  Even if you are a wingnut!

You Wanna Go to War, Bitches?

DNC's response to the sleazy Romney "misquoting" add.

I think Mittens should have focused on taking down his rivals for the nomination. Now he's fighting on another front as well. Leave it to asshole idiot republicans to fuck things up this badly. Mittens has a resurgent Unka Newt now in the lead, in some polls, and taking good effective shots at him should be as easy as hitting the side of a barn with a shoulder launched rocket at a range of 30 yards. So does he do that? Nooooo. He takes on P. Obama in such a sleazy fashion that the some folk on my side would HAVE TO retaliate. Granted, I am sure some of the rank and file wingnuts got all wet over the shitty sleazy dishonest add. But those people are wired that way already.

You are not likely to win over statistically meaningful primary voters by cheap shotting Obama at this point. You are still running against 7 (actually more, but those other clowns don't count) rivals for the GOP nom. You have to convince the base that you are better than them. Then you get to take on the DNC and Team Obama.

Thor's Day Quickies.

Mittens has been caught on camera saying corporations are people too. Typical. Granted the "heads up their asses," conservative rank and file might fall for that shit. But it's no big secret that lots of big corps are sitting on huge piles of cash, not hiring people, and not expanding, and not cutting dividend checks for the shareholders. So fuck you Mitt. The money is not going to people as you said it. It's being stockpiled.

And it seems Mittens is singing Duet with Grover Norquist. At least he's singing Grover's favorite tune, "No new taxes." 'Cause those corps sitting on cash not hiring anyone now are ONLY going to continue to do as they have been doing, sitting on all that money, if we tax the the profits they already are sitting on. Actually.

I don't think I have mentioned UK riots yet. That shit fucking sucks. It would suck even if I did not have people over there. But I do. And I won't go long on the "That's what austerity on top of decades of neglect," will get you, theme. But I will play the card as I just have. Chickens/roost. Whatever.

I'm running out of steam here. It's been a boring week for one so full of economic sturm und drung. I will finish off with the non-story of the week: Bachmann Crazy Picture Mania. Even Ed Schultz is taking her side. Hmm kay. Again, I stand by my post yesterday. Get real people.

Oddly enough (or not, as I will explain) it seems funny that the one person not whining about this is The Stepford Wife herself. But I bet she doesn't think there's anything wrong with the pic. She really doesn't look all that more crazy than the one on her official campaign site, so (shrugs shoulders) eh!

Oh. Tonight's the latest GOP Wannabe debate. I hope she gets asked about her newly (old, actually) discovered racist thinking about slavery, the pre Civil War South, and why she thinks negroes were better off as property than they are now, or were before they were dragged to America in chains. Enough with the fucking picture, I want someone to put her on the spot and make her wiggle, squirm, and hopefully lie in a spectacularly obvious way.

Mittens' Dog Whistle: "Hang Him."

Yesterday I typed out a post regarding Mitt Romney's (so called) gaff, in making an extended metaphor regarding hanging things around P. Obama's neck, like the famous Albatross in the S.T. Coleridge poem. And Mittens ended up saying, "Hang him with that," and immediately pulled his punch with weasel words.

Anyway, I decided to sit on the draft, and did not publish it. Partially, I held my horses back, as I got off on a tangent about Ann Althouse -- her post on her blog set a fire under my ass. I chose to hold back, hoping one of her commenters would point out her misremembering misunderstanding of the meaning of the word lynch. And one did. Kudos to that sharp knife in that drawer.

Also, kudos to the bright commenter who called out Mittens as knowing full well what he was doing. I agree. I just now watched the vid, and I agree. No mistake there. He was engaging in a racist dog whistle with deliberate intent, if not having practiced delivering the line. I am not going to say my theatrical training in the acting arts means I can always call out an actor acting. That would be claiming too much. But I will say what I know about good actors and the best actors. You can see the work, watching a good actor. You don't see the work, you don't see the effort, watching a great actor. And I am going to say, as far as the political stage is concerned, Mittens is one of the greats.

Anyway, that is the set up. So let me now get to the real point. As there is no reasonable doubt, really, that Mittens was deliberately blowing the racist dog whistle there, and this is definitely not the last time we will hear that racist dog whistle from the GOP Contenders and Wannabes, comes the following question:

How far out racist need any GOP Contender or Wannabe get, before the others pounce on him or her like a piece of red meat tossed in the tiger cage?

They all want to run against P. Obama. And this time the nerve to push harder against the racist taboos seems higher already than last time (and that was ugly enough!) But eventually these chuckle-headed clowns will have to understand the following fact. They have to run against each other, before they get to run against P. Obama. So is there some objective point where the dog whistles get too far out there, or will we just have to wait and see who pounces on whom for what crack? I'm thinking wait and see.

There are few blood sports I enjoy, but I do enjoy GOP Gladiator Contests. Or maybe the better analogy is a pack of hungry, feral dogs, pouncing on the weakest member of the pack, for a snack? I'll be well entertained, once that starts. And if what happened to Mr. Comb Over during the Press Corp party leads to the pack smelling blood from that critter, and if the rest start to pounce, then we will know, it's on!

(And I did not start out trying to throw in as many metaphors as I could. It just worked that way. A subtle bit of commentary, I am thinking.)
