Do They Understand How Political Parties Work?

I am still sorta amazed about how some educated people don't get that  what happened  with the Demticket switcheroo was a political party working the way it is supposed to.  There is individual ambition.  Then there is the ambition of the group.  And the ambition of the group matters more.  You are free to go it alone.  If you want the help of the group you agree.  the ambition of the group matters more.

I am not going to deeply deconstruct the essay from the WP by Jason Willick. But he goes into the matter and quotes DeTocqueville.  And even if he quotes the good bits, doesn't really get the real point.  This is how a political party is supposed to work.   But hey.  Even DeTocqueville didn't really get it even if he observed it and saw what was going on.

"[a]s Tocqueville reminds us, a politician who impertinently challenges a political majority “has offended the only authority which is able to promote his success.”

That is the maybe not the point of a political party.  But it is how they work .  Otherwise, they are cults of personality, or captive to a ruling elite.  The party lost faith in Joe.  The end.  Thanks for your decades of work in our interest.  But now we need someone else to represent our interests.

Emphasis on our.
