The Origin of "I Want To Go To There," Explained.

I was on my way over to Hulu to find the clip from the Daily Show where Jon Stewart started poking fun at Jonathan Krohn, The 14 year old Republican Lepra-Puppet Parrot. The bit, so I read, had him checking the rule book, and finding out that mocking the lad was indeed a violation. Even so, Stewart did let loose what I think was a perfect, and perfectly harmless shot at the child;

Doogie Howser, GOP.

But before I got there, I saw that The Goddess of Contemporary Comedy, The Brilliant Tina Fey, had been a guest on the Jimmy Fallon show. And the thought hit me (not literally, but work with me, here) "I want to go there," just like Fey's alter ego, Liz Lemon might say.

In any case, I ran the clip of her on that show, first.

Of the notable moments, what stuck in my mind most was the part where Jimmy Fallon held up various pictures of Tina Fey from her SNL Weekend Update years, to show her various hair styles. As funny as some of them were (styles do change a lot and quickly), a thought hit me. She started doing the Weekend Update thing in 2000. And that was when she started the nerdy, yet slyly sexy bit of hers. And looking at those various pictures, her always wearing the librarian eye wear, it suddenly hit me as a moment of clarity. It is likely that Sociopathic Succubus Sarah started aping Tina, some years back, only to end up mocked, famousy, by the woman responsible for Palin's look, actually, maybe (I can't prove it, ya know.)

Even if not true (unlikely it ain't true, I would bet), the whole Karmic Wheel part of that cycle, in theory if not in reality, is very attractive. Let me write it, in the style of a plot point:

Small town, unsophisticated, uncreative, average looking female politician uses TV comedienne's character as a blueprint for her makeover look. Fast Forward. Small Town Caribou Barbie is now Governor of Alaska, and gets chosen, almost randomly, to be the VP Candidate for the GOP. She is now nationally and internationally known. Republicans swoon for her "look." The label MILF gets recast as GILF, to describe her and her "look."

Then along comes the comedienne, who's career is flying so high that she really doesn't need the moment. She is star and exec. producer of a smash hit, award winning TV comedy. But in an ironic twist of fate, she, the template for the so-called GILF's "look," strikes comedy gold, in a series of send ups of the so-called GILF. In fact, before the first performance of the skit, people were saying, "Gee, Tina would be perfect to play Palin."

But that is the Karmic Wheel's ironic turn, as Tina was basically playing Palin, who was trying to look sorta like Tina's Weekend Update News Reader.

So, to turn the old line on its end, the servant did not become the master. The master destroyed the impudent servant (metaphorically speaking.)

Well I dig it, at least!

Oh, and before I forget, Tina admitted that one of her Liz Lemon lines was actually authored by her now 3 year old daughter. That is where Tina got her now-signature,"I want to go there," bit.

Priceless! And she does deliver that line with the wide eyed precociousness of a child, too, so I am not surprised with the origin of the line. And for those of you not familiar with the show, the main category of several running series of gags for the show, is how alleged adults so often revert to childishness, when under pressure. Honestly, there is not a single character on the show who is an adult 24/7. Kind of like real life with real people, that is.

Oh. Oh. One last remark about Tina's appearance. Now to set this up I should say that the smoking gorgeous latin lady Salma Hayek has had a recurring role on "30 Rock," Tina's hit show, this season. And Tina was at the recent Academy Awards, and she recounted a story about how she, "Doesn't do fun." So as the story goes, Salma Hayek invites Tina to go dancing with her, and Penolope Cruz at Madonna's house. Tina begged off. In her words, she would have been out of place in that company and would have ended up as the girl stuck holding the purses. The joke was funny, and like the species of running gags on "30 Rock," she is famous for, we have child hood, or in this case, high school neuroses still ruling the lives of the the adults.

But what makes this oddly funny is that Tina is one of the hot girls of show biz, in all senses of the word. She should not still be thinking of her self as "That Girl." She be a genuine Hot Chick now (no matter her saying she looks like a mommy now. It is not like anyone gets to see her doing that domestic stuff, anyway.)

And my last addendum: As I was typing this up, and thinking about what I was thinking about, more so Tina, than that Horrid Palin Woman, I started thinking about why it is that that Sexy Nerd thing worked so well for Tina, in my mind, but seems forced, and fake to my eyes, when that Horrid Palin Woman does it. that is because for Palin, it is forced; it is every bit as much a costume as those God awful animal suits that team mascots wear. There is not one bit of authenticity there, with the Palin act. Now with Tina Fey we see that even if she is acting, she is pulling out some aspect of her self. Or should I say, was, as she has not done the Weekend Update Character in years, but still. We have no problem imagining Tina is that girl, back in high school, who was not the head cheerleader, or the jock-ette, but still, was admired for the power of her brain, and the speed of her wit. Lots of those girls end up as late bloomers. And let's remember that it is far easier, and faster work to pull off a visual makeover, than it is to make an average (meaning sorta on the dull side) mind into a sharp one.

Sarah Heath Palin may have been several things in High School, but she was not one of the smarter kids, or possessing one of the sharper wits. She was not the kind of girl that people thought of as a thinker, or funny, or the kind of person you would want to take along on a road trip in a car with a busted radio. Seriously. In short, she is no body's idea of the cute geek. And that is why the sexy nerd act is so inauthentic when she does it. Like we say here in Joisy, what a fugazy.
