Hey Althouse, and Other Wrong Headed Christians . . .

Shouldn't you be whining about the lack of mentioning of agricultural deities, instead?

Ok. Back up the truck.

Today, Ann Althouse (perhaps not intending to come across all whiny) published some silly nonsense about how P. Obama failed to mention GOD in his Turkey Day proclamation.
Go Here for that silly shit.

And as an aside, it's when she goes down the wing nut road, like in this instance, that she earns the reputation of being mostly a wing nut herself. Granted, merely being a whiny religious person, either generally or specific to your own beliefs/denomination, does not instantly and always equal wing nut. But it's their issue, to whine about how some people don't go out of their way to promote religion. As if that is an insult to religion and religious people --- to chose not to do so.

Ok. Now it's time to get down to the truth of the matter, and why I think her post is fucking silly.

Are you ready? Here goes. There's nothing fucking religious about Thanksgiving! It's so fucking not a religious holiday! It's the American Nation's Harvest Party! If there is going to be any religious aspect attached to the event, it should be doing what our heathen ancestors did this time of year, worshiping the Agricultural Deities, for fuck's sake. In other nations in the North Hemisphere, often at the regional if not smaller level, folk are (or have been) celebrating modern day variations on the heathen ancestors' celebrations in honor of the harvest, and the Lords and Ladies of Agriculture.

So where the fuck do people get the idea there is something Judeo Christianist about Thanksgiving? Well before I answer that rhetorical question, let me plainly say that what most people think about the "First" Thanksgiving is more so a result of myth making rather than actual solid history. So that is the context. Beyond that, there's the bit (and likely true, but follow me) about how during that first Harvest at Plymouth Colony Throw Down, that the settlers gave thanks to God Almighty. Ya. These people where Extremist Christian Outcasts. They thanked God for everything, be it waking up alive in the morning, to that first successful bowel movement of the day. They were religious people. The celebration wasn't specifically religious merely on account of that. So in ending I say, what the fuck?

Oh and Happy Turkey Day. And for the record my favorite Agriculture God is Dionysus. Just saying. And the picture there is Xochiquetzal, an Aztec Earth Deity. I know. She got some long slinky gams for an Aztec!

The Preamble Begins . . . "We the People of the United States." Silly Person!

On Thursday night I posted a mini rant against Silly Person, and Queen Bee of an Infamous Internet Hate Group (have you ever seen her commenter's out put? Sickening!) Ann Althouse. I was ranting about her reaction to a line in P. Obama's speech. The crucial line:

"But there has always been another thread running throughout our history – a belief that we are all connected; and that there are some things we can only do together, as a nation."

She opined thusly:

"What bothered me so much? It was the belief that we are all connected. The idea of the collective. We are one, and the one is the government."

I went back the next morning and deleted my first rant, as I made the thing all about me, and that was wrong. So let me restate the core argument.

Now folks. This is an American Lawyer. Who is a law professor. A Constitutional Law professor. Who doesn't get it. Doesn't get America or the ideas that led to the drafting, and ratification of the US Const. Who does not appreciate the axiomatic fact that the US Const. is the product of We the People. Not a bunch of individuals oddly enough who randomly ended up in the same place to at the same time create the US Federal Government only exercising their rugged, individual free will. And like it or not, not only is there no daylight between We the People and the US Federal Government, but there's nothing remotely close to a line of division between the two.

But there is daylight, there is a bright line between mere ideological advocacy, and acting in a deliberately ignorant fashion, in public. But that's not we the people talking. That's my pov, though.

I haven't cussed yet, have I? Ok. Here goes. The fucking line is "We the People." Not we persons. It's really that fucking simple a thing!

Silly Person Ann Althouse Does it Again!

It's been two weeks at least. Since I posted about silly things found on her page. And this is just a silly thing, really. But I am tired of actually posting about the hurricane that wasn't (for me at least, lucky me.) I have been at it on my FB page since Fri. Evening. Anyway. Ms. Althouse threw up a bunch of posts about it. But I bring your attention to this one. Here.

Silly lady. The bull is not on Wall Street. Wall Street is several blocks North of the bull. I would say the bull is on Broadway, but to be fair, it's at one of those triangles. There's like a one block street there on the other side of the triangle. But that location is known as Bowling Green. The subway station there for the 4 and the 5 trains is called the Bowling Green Station. And the bull is basically out in front of one of the oldest landmark buildings in Downtown; the Cunard Building. And let's not forget the former Custom House that now is home to the American Indian museum, and the Bankruptcy Court.

Now ok. I confess. I have been working in that part of town for the past couple weeks and depending on which train I decide to take in or out, I will likely walk past the bronze beast, at least once during a work day. But still. Even if not working there presently, I would have said, wrong street, lady.

Speaking of the bull, it still intrigues me how many people pose for pix "fondling" that bronze bull's big shiny balls. What does that say about people, hmmm?

One last thing tying "Bowling Green" and the hurricane and my current gig. I still don't know if mass transit will be up and running in time for the morning commute. We shall have to wait and see.
